Poor Maintenance and Car Accidents
Car accidents usually occur because someone has done something wrong while driving. The mistake can be something ridiculously silly or it can be something more serious. One of the most common causes of car accidents is poor car maintenance.
Contrary to the beliefs of some, cars are not indestructible and do have parts that wear out and need to be replaced or maintained over time. Of the parts that wear out and have to be replaced, there are none more important to the prevention of car accidents than the brakes.
The brakes are responsible for stopping a car and are a significant defense against hitting things in front of a car. As a large percentage of car accidents involve someone hitting something in front of him or her, this is important. With poor brake maintenance, the brakes will not work and so may fail when a person slams on the brakes to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of him or her.
Another cause of accidents is the windshield. An extremely dirty windshield will prevent a person from seeing out of the car clearly enough to see the other vehicles or objects to avoid. In addition, if a car’s windshield has a significant crack or dent in it, the crack can distort the images and interfere with a driver’s depth perception.
Windshield wipers can play an important role as well. Old wipers may scratch the windshield or cause more vision problems than they remove. If the wiper does little more than move the water or dirt or whatever else across the windshield and never clears it, there is little benefit.
