A verdict has been reached in a lawsuit based on a traffic accident that occurred in Columbia, Missouri in 2005. The plaintiff, Krysten Chambrot, then a student at Missouri University, was riding her bicycle across College Ave when she was struck by driver Judy Pope. She was thrown from her bicycle and struck a Columbia Water and Light truck being driven by Michael Arens. She sustained substantial injuries requiring her left leg to be amputated above the knee.

The $4 million lawsuit target both drivers, the city of Columbia, the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission and others. After a long deliberation, the jury determined that Chambrot was 75% responsible for the accident, and thus entitled to $450,000 to cover her medical bills and other expenses. The drivers were found to be 12% and 13% responsible.
