Jacksonville man awarded $3 million for burn injuries

A jury found Gardener Oil Inc. 100 percent negligent in causing or contributing to the burn injuries of a Jacksonville man last week.  Alvaro Chavez was awarded over $3 million by Gardener Oil who delivered tainted fuel to his workplace.  The diesel fuel that had been delivered to Carl Rogers Logging, was mixed with gasoline, making it highly flammable.  The oil company deposited the diesel/gasoline mixture into one of the logging company's bulk tanks.  Chavez was unaware of the diesel-gasoline mix, and when the mixture ignited, he was engulfed in a blaze that severely burned his body, face, and hands.

Chavez' attorney said that his client to sustained deformities, disfigurement, scarring, permanent vision damage and loss of hearing, as well as several other physical, mental and emotional injuries.  His attorney also states that Chavez has already incurred substantial medical expenses and will continue to accumulate hefty bills as a result of his many injuries.
