What Should You Do After A Car Accident?

Ford pays $131 million in wrongful death suit

Last week, Ford Motor Co. agreed to a settlement of $131 million in the wrongful death suit filed against them by the family of the New York Mets AA player who passed away after a car accident involving his Ford Explorer Sport.  This was the family's third attempt at suing Ford after two prior attempts resulted in hung juries.

22-year old Brian Cole was traveling home from spring training in Florida in 2001 when he was involved in a tragic single-vehicle accident.  Cole was driving his Ford Explorer Sport on a Florida highway when his vehicle swerved and rolled off the side of the highway.  Cole was thrown from his vehicle and transported to Saint Luke's Hospital with serious injuries.  He later succumbed to his injuries incurred in the accident and passed away.

Cole's family alleges that Ford's vehicle was unable to perform to the standards at which it was marketed, was unstable, and had defective seat belts.  Ford has never admitted to any wrongdoing or defect to cause the accident.
