Last week, the family of a motorcyclist killed in a motorcycle accident four years ago was awarded $8.5 million by a Palm Beach County jury.

The accident occurred on August 8, 2006 when the motorcyclist, 51-year old John Potts, drove through a yellow light at the intersection of Beeline Highway and Jog Road.  At the same time, a Hummer driven by James Harvey sped through the red light on Jog Road.  Harvey’s Hummer then collided with Potts’ motorcycle.  Potts was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center where he later passed away.

Two eye witnesses provided accounts to verify that Harvey had ran a red light before striking Potts.  $4 million of the award will go to Potts’ wife and $2 million will go to each of his daughters.  In addition, the family was awarded $480,000 for loss of income from Potts’ death.
