What Should You Do After A Car Accident?

Legislators consider concussion safety bill

Posted on April 8th, 2011 No Comments

A concussion safety bill, called the Youth Athletes bill, is currently being considered by members of the Florida legislature.  The bill proposes requiring children suspected of suffering a concussion to see a doctor and receive an official clearing before they are able to play sports again.

An estimated 136,000 high school athletes in the United States suffer concussions every year.  Many of these are mild concussions, but if signs are ignored and the brain injury is untreated, a concussion could result in a much more serious brain injury.

If the bill is passed, the Florida High School Athletic Association will establish rules and policies for when a middle school or high school athlete with concussion-like symptoms should be held from participating in athletic practices and events, and when they should be able to return.

If you have suffered a concussion or other brain injury as the result of someone else’s negligence, contact the Jacksonville concussion lawyers of The Law Offices of Donald Guthrie at 904-296-1088 to set up an appointment to discuss your injuries with a compassionate brain injury attorney.
