What Should You Do After A Car Accident?

Jacksonville has 3rd most pedestrian fatalities

Posted on June 22nd, 2011 No Comments

According to the 2010 U.S. Census, Jacksonville has the third highest pedestrian fatality rate in traffic accidents in the country.  Researchers say that while the city was designed for highs-speed vehicles and fast-moving traffic, it was not designed with the city’s elderly population in mind.

The director of a transportation research group, Transportation Alternatives, stated, “Streets are no longer primarily for moving traffic as quickly as possible.  That’s a very 1950′s notion of middle America.  Our streets are where we live in this city, and walking is the primary mode of how people get around.”

The research group completed a study using census data on pedestrian accident fatalities across the country.  Researchers found that 16.1 percent of traffic fatalities in Jacksonville were a pedestrian fatality.
