According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 33-year old mother and her two children were injured in a car accident on Wednesday afternoon.  Police reports state that the accident was caused by a tire that split in half.

The Fort Lauderdale woman was traveling on Interstate 95 about half a mile from State Road 206.  The accident occurred at around 3:30 p.m. when one of the right tires of the woman’s 1997 Ford Explorer separated.

The split tire caused the mother to lose control of her vehicle.  The SUV overturned and the woman’s 9-year old daughter was ejected from the vehicle.

Emergency crews airlifted the young girl to Shands Jacksonville for treatment of serious injuries.  The mother and her 8-month old child were treated for minor injuries at Flagler Hospital.
