On Monday night in Jacksonville, a firefighter lost his life after he was hit by a car while working on the scene of another accident.

The fireman, along with other firefighters and policemen, were responding to a prior accident on the road when an oncoming vehicle plowed directly into the men. According to witnesses, the driver of the vehicle did not attempt to brake when he struck the men. One firefighter was pronounced dead at the scene, and two other officers were critically injured.

The initial car accident where the emergency personnel were on scene was caused by the reckless driver’s mother. The man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and criminal intent to commit second-degree murder.

Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends during this tragic time.
