A construction accident that occurred in New Jersey on Monday has left a construction worker in critical condition.

The accident took place in Clifton at a manufacturing plant that produces metal tubes. The 44-year-old worker was part of a project involving the development of a new roof for the plant. It was the first day of the project, and the man slipped while on top of the roof and plummeted 40 feet.

He fell directly into a vat of nitric acid that is used to clean the metal pipes. He became completely submerged in the substance, and three of his co-workers attempted to save him. He was pulled out of the vat and taken directly to a hospital to have his wounds treated.  He is listed in critical condition at this time.
