Man drowns in boating accident at Compass Lake

A 52-year-old man and his passenger were dumped into the water after their water craft tipped over in the lake leaving them stranded and killing one man.

The pair tried to climb back on to the water vessel, but were unsuccessful. The 52-year-old man then slipped underneath the water. The 41-year-old passenger tried to get both him and his friend on the water craft, but evenutally decided to bring them to shore.

Once they made it, the 52-year-old man had already died. The exact cause of death is still unknown, but will be determined shortly. This has been the fourth drowning in Jackson County this year.

Pilot of experimental helicopter killed after crash

The pilot of a helicopter that was built in a garage was killed after it crashed in Florida.

The accident occurred 50 miles from Orlando around 2 p.m. The 66-year-old pilot took off from a local airpark and flew half a mile before crashing behind a Publix Supermarket.

The man was the only one on board and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The man's wife said he spent three years building the experimental helicopter. Police are continuing to investigate the accident.

Sliced apples recalled after Listeria found

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced that sliced apples from the Marjon Specialty Foods Inc. in Plant City, Florida have been voluntarily recalled after testing positive for Listeria monocytogenes.

Listeria monocytogenes is a food poisonng that can cause serious infections that can be fatal in young children and elderly. Healthy indiviudals may only suffer from symptoms such as fever, headache, diarrhea, and nausea. 

The recalled product includes the two-ounce single serves packages, one case of of 100 two-ounce products with a Use By date of 7-20-2010, Five cases of two-ounce packages with the Use By date of 7-21-2010, and 83 cases of 72-ounce packages with a Use By date of 7-20-2010.

Man dies from injuries suffered in motorcycle accident

A 25-year-old Port Charles resident was killed as a result of a motorcycle accident.

According to officials, the motorcyclist was heading south down the roadway when a car attempted to make a turn in front of him. The motorcycle collided with the car, driven by an 83-year-old man. The man was thrown from the motorcycle onto the road. The man driving the car was uninjured.

Two teens killed in car accident

Two teens were killed and the rest of their family was sent to the hospital after a tragic car accident while the family was traveling on a family vacation.

An 18-year-old and 16-year-old were killed in the accident that occurred around 4:30 p.m. A 12-year-old family member was flown to the hospital in Jacksonville after suffering leg injuries in the accident.

According to officials, the family was riding in an SUV when the back rear tire blew out causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The car the flipped and crashed into a tree. The mother and father were also transported to the hospital, but have both been released.

Football Coach Joe Kines' Daughter Dead After Auto Accident

KBTX reports that Coach Joe Kines' daugher was killed in a fatal car accident on Monday in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Kines' daughter, Susana Kines Langston, was 43-years-old. " His two grandsons, Matthew and Joshua, were injured in the crash as well,"writes KBTX.

Hines has coached all over throughout his career. In addition to working for Texas A&M and Alabama's football programs, he also coached, "at Florida State, Georgia, Arkansas, Florida, Clemson and Jacksonville State. He also served four years in the NFL working with the Tampa Bay Buccaneer linebackers from 1987-90," according to KBTX.

The funeral services for his daughter have not been scheduled yet.
