Boat Crashes Into Dock, Injures 2

by Administrator 12. February 2010 07:49

A father and son were seriously injured when their small boat crashed into the dock after dark in the last week of January. The 35-year-old father took his 4-year-old son and two other adults on a boat ride, but soon realized it was too dark to be safe. Reports say that he turned his boat around to go back, but had trouble navigating back to the dock, even though he wasn't far from it when he decided to turn around. He struck the dock going approximately 20 miles per hour.

The boat became partially submerged under the dock and the windshield broke. The father and son were transported to the hospital. Injuries were not life-threatening, but doctors say the victims would probably need facial reconstruction surgery.

Report Details the Recent Missing Boater Accident

by Administrator 30. March 2009 01:39

A recent Florida accident that left 3 football players dead has been making national news.  The accident was responsible for the death of 2 former NFL players and a former University of South Florida football player.

The state has released a report that details the information and findings that has been collected about the accident so far.   Some of the important information in the report is that 3 of the 4 men were drinking when the accident occurred and the emergency equipment on the boat was not adequate.  The use of the groups cell phones also did not work because the boaters were not close enough to a signal. The group also tried to use flares at one point, but were unsuccessful.

Hypothermia was a big factor in this,  causing many of the people to be unable to carry on and separate the boat.  The lone survivor spent nearly two days clinging to the boat before being found.  He was suffering from hypothermia and contusions.

by Administrator 7. January 2009 05:00

A tragic boating accident claimed the life of Fletcher Middle School Art Teacher, Joanne Brown. While boating on New Year's Day, Brown's boat struck something in the water and then capsized. In the ensuing events, Brown was drowned.

All of Fletcher Middle School was in a somber mood coming back from the winter break. Any life ending prematurely can have an effect on a great many people. This can often apply even more so when the death involves an avoidable incident.
