Earlier this morning, a worker for Acme Barricades in Jacksonville's West Side was killed when a piece of equipment he was using malfunctioned. Police described the worker as a male in his mid-forties.
One of the man's co-workers said that tragic construction accident occurred when a barrier above the worker accidently flipped into the open position and fell on top of him and crushing him. The worker was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The malfunctioning barrier is typically used in road projects attached to the back of trucks to absorb the impact of being hit from behind.
The accident occurred around 7:45 AM at Normandy Boulevard near Herlong Road. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration will be investigating the fatal accident.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the worker killed in this terrible construction accident.
