A complex traffic accident occurred in Damascus, MD at around 5:20 PM Sunday. It began with a woman injured after falling off her horse at an equestrian event. As an ambulance arrived to help her, 51 year old Robert Lynch was traveling westbound on his motorcycle, with 49 year old Catherine Louis Butler close behind. Lynch slowed down when a car in front of him stopped for the ambulance; Butler did not slow down and collided with his vehicle. He was propelled into a nearby car driven by a student driver while she was thrown into the road.
Butler is being treated for serious injuries, but is in stable condition. Lynch and the student driver were not seriously injured. The state of the injured equestrian is unknown.
