What Should You Do After A Car Accident?

Jacksonville Contact Burn Attorney

A contact burn is a type of injury caused when a person’s skin comes into contact with a very hot object. While this type of injury can usually be avoided by taking basic precautions, they remain one of the most common forms of burn. Though many contact burns are mild and result only in temporary pain, severe contact burns can have much more serious consequences for their victims.

Contact Burn Symptoms and Treatments

Like other types of burns, contact burns can be first, second, or third degree:

  • First Degree: A first degree burn only damages the surface of the skin. It is very painful, but usually does not cause lasting damage. First degree burns should be treated with clean, cold water and bandaging if necessary.
  • Second Degree: A second degree burn damages the outer two layers of skin, the epidermis and the dermis. This type of injury often causes blisters, raw skin, and extreme pain. They should be immediately cleaned and bandaged, and drugs for pain control may be necessary.
  • Third Degree: A third degree burn is a grave injury that damages deeper levels of tissue such as muscle, nerves, and fat. Patients with third degree burns are at a high risk for infection, permanent nerve damage, scarring, and potentially even loss of limb. Any third degree burn requires immediate professional medical treatment.

Causes of Contact Burns

Contact burns are often caused by acts of negligence, including:

  • Faulty products that become overheated
  • Workplace accidents involving soldering or other risky tasks
  • Poorly supervised campfires or fireplaces
  • Unsafe behavior in kitchens
  • Overheated pipes in cars or homes

A person who has been badly burned due to another party’s negligence may have grounds for a Jacksonville personal injury lawsuit. If the plaintiff is successful, he or she could win compensation for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
